Innocence

Innocence

Based on the writings and words of young people who chose death instead of forced military service

DIRECTED BY GUY DAVIDI

Guy Davidi: “The loss of Innocence was always connected for me with death. Growing up in Israel, I remember looking around and seeing how the beauty was fleeing away from children’s eyes around me. Slowly you realize that you are losing it too and you ache for this fading.”

Israel is no place for the innocent, the sensitives or the idealistic. A whole system of conventions and social rules breaks down all the gentle lines of childhood into a rough, desensitized people with the main purpose to track all children into the one thing that defines Israeli identity and ethos, the compulsory military service.

Innocence is a story about boys and girls who resisted the breaking down of youth for the purpose of building soldiers. It is based on the writings and words of young people who died during their military service.

I remember looking around and seeing how the beauty was fleeing away from children’s eyes around me
